All credit applications you make are recorded on
your credit report. The information you offer a
potential credit provider about yourself such as
your place of living, employment, etc will be
recorded on your credit history report. Each
time you apply for a loan or a credit card, or
even a mobile phone contract, your credit report
is checked by the potential credit provider. All
your loan applications are reflected on your
credit report.
Applicants who would like to be treated
favorably by a lender need to :
(i) make sure that they pay all their bills on
time and do not have any credit defaults.
(ii) make sure that they keep their loan
applications to a minimum. When you start
shopping your loan around, your credit report
begins to look ‘busy’, and a potential lender
could decline your loan application. Lenders are
like ‘sheep’ they follow each other. Numerous
loan applications, make you look like a ‘bad
risk’.
(iii) not make loan applications while on
Centrelink, maternity leave, unemployment etc. –
these applications are in most cases declined.
Lenders that are prepared to offer funds to
applicants in such a predicament tend to charge
a lot more and you should be very careful in
committing to such loans.
Did you know that a bad credit mark remains on
your credit report for up to 5 years after you
pay your outstanding defaults? During this time
borrowing through mainstream lenders is rather
difficult.
